Fourth batch of students, August - December 2008

Fourth batch of students, August - December 2008

(1) Mr. Puniram Chunara.
I am Puniram Chunara from Surkhet District. I was born and brought up in a Hindu
family. So we used to worship Hindu god and goddesses for our salvation and peace.
But there was no peace at all in our family. Before accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior and redeemer my life was entirely worthless. There was worry,
suffering and uncertainty in my life as well as in my family. An incident took place in our family i.e. was my son fell sick. We did not leave any stone unturned for his treatment but nothing happened. Lastly we took him to the Church. Christian people offered prayer to God for my son and ultimately my son improved his health. I praise God for that incident now. Then I received Him as my savior and redeemer. Now our entire family is Christian. We have peace and eternal life. Praise the Lord. He has brought me here at HBTC to learn from His words. I am learning so many things here and after my graduation I will be serving Him in our own locality as a local leader. Thank you so much.
(2) Mrs Yashoda Shahi.
I am Yashoda Shahi from Surkhet District. I was born and brought up in a Hindu family. I was a Hindu worshipper. My past life was horrible. I had severe sickness for four years. My health was completely down and my life was full of depression and anxiety. I used to go to witch doctors for my treatment. One day I was coming back from witch doctor's place and there I met a believer and asked me where I was from? I am from witch doctor's place – I replied. He asked me some questions and wanted to know more of me. Then I told him of my sickness and how I had been struggling with my life. This Christian man shared about Christ and at that time what I thought was if I believed Him, I will be healed. That was my hope and at that moment I could not believe Him but later after 4/5 months I received Jesus Christ as my personal savior and redeemer. Then my physical sickness and spiritual sickness gone somewhere. I praise God for this. Now I am happy that all my family members are Christians. There is peace and joy in our home. Moreover, the Lord has given me this opportunity to learn His words at HBTC. Hope and pray that during these five months I would be able to learn more things from His words. After this course I would love to serve the Lord. Thank you so much.

(3) Miss Sunita Dulal
I am Sunita Dulal from far west region Kanchanpur. I was born and brought up in a
Hindu family where we used to bow before hand made god and goddesses thinking and
believing that we will get peace and salvation from them. Indeed I was in darkness and did not worship the true God. I was sinning and living a worthless life.
Before accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior and redeemer, my life
was worthless and full of depression, dissatisfaction and failure. But after receiving the Lord, I could feel that now I have everything. Praise the Lord. I am happy that the Lord has brought me here at HBTC to learn more of His words. After my graduation I would love to serve Him. Thank you.

(4) Mr. Parsuram Pun.
I am Parsuram Pun from Surkhet District. I was also born and brought up in a Hindu
family. I used to worship Hindu god and goddesses for our peace and salvation. I was
searching for peace and salvation but I could not get that. My life was not full, there was no success and satisfaction in my life. So I was searching for peace, salvation of my soul, satisfaction. One day I heard a gospel and later I received this. After receiving him, now I have peace, joy and eternal security of my soul. Thank God for this. God has brought me here at HBTC to learn something from His words. I am happy that He has brought me here. After this course I will be serving the Lord in my own locality. Thank you so much.

(5&6) Raju & Mina (Couple)
I am Raju Rokaya from Surkhet District. I was born and brought up in a Hindu family and practiced all the Hindu rituals. Once I fell sick and did everything for my treatment but nothing happened. I spent all I had. One day I was heading towards my in-laws place. They were all Christians and they shared good news to me and urged to come Church. I kept attending the church and slowly I came to know the truth that the Lord is indeed a healer. After that I received Him as my personal savior and redeemer. Because of His grace I received healing from Him. From that day onward, the Lord has been blessing me and been my shepherd and master.
Now, I am happy and blessed. There is peace and joy in my life. The Lord has again
given me this opportunity to learn His words here at HBTC with my wife Mina. I praise God for this opportunity. And my future plan is to serve the Lord in my own locality being under my local Church's leadership. Thank you so much.

I am Mina Rokaya from Surkhet District. I was also born and brought up in a Hindu
family and practiced all the Hindu rituals as a Hindu. There used to be always fighting and quarrel in our home. There was no peace at all. Later my brother fell sick back at my parent's home. That incident was turning point for me to receive Jesus Christ as my personal redeemer. Frankly speaking, my entire family believed in Jesus just because of my brother's sickness. They believed for my brother. Surprisingly, my brother got healed from his sickness and I also came to know that ultimately He is the one who cares us and heals us. Then after few weeks I also received the Lord as my savior and redeemer.
Now, we all are active Christians. My husband Raju and me both are now at HBTC for
training. Praise the Lord! Now we have peace and joy at home as well as in our
individual life. After this course our local Church has great plan for us and hope we will do something for the glory of our father God. Thank you so much.

(7) Mr. Paul Giri.
I am Paul Giri from Banke District. I was also born and brought up in a Hindu family. Because of our elder brother's sickness we could receive the Lord as our personal savior and redeemer. A believer of our locality shared the gospel to me and I accepted the Lord. My brother got healed and we also believed in Jesus Christ. We have countless blessings from above. Before we did not have anything but now we have
goats, cattle and land. He has made us giver not taker. Praise the Lord. We have peace, joy and happiness and cooperation in our family. Lastly, my single life's aim is to preach the gospel, making disciple and planting His churches. May God help me to fulfill this vision. And I am happy that the Lord has brought me here at HBTC to learn His words. Thanks

(8) Miss Surja Saarki
I am Surja Saarki from Kailali District. I was also born and brought up in a Hindu family and practiced all Hindu rituals. My mummy has so sick because of Satan's attack. We did not leave any stone unturned for her treatment. Hospitals to witch doctors but nothing happened. Someone suggested us to go to Church and be prayed and later we went to Church and believers offered prayer to God for our mother's recovery. Really my mother got healed and we also believed in Him.
Now things are better. We have peace, joy and happiness in our home. The Lord is all in all for us. He has brought me here at HBTC and after my graduation I have strong desire to serve the Lord by giving gospels to others who are dying in my surrounding. Thank you so much.

(9) Mr. Raj Darlami.
I am Raj Darlami from Kailali District. I was also born and brought up in a Hindu family. While practicing Hinduism my parents were badly persecuted by evil spirits. We were tortured mentally as well as physically. We were seeking for a true God that we could release from the persecution of evil power. Lastly we went to Church and because of prayer that evil spirit gone somewhere. Then we all believed in Jesus Christ. Now we have joy and happiness in our family. I really thank God for bringing me here at HBTC to equip myself in His words. After this course I would like to serve Him by sharing good news to others. Please do pray for me. Thank you so much.

(10) Mr. Dil Bahadur Salami.
I am Dil Bahadur Salami from Surkhet District. I was born and brought up in a Hindu
family. Life was full of sorrow, failure and dissatisfaction. Various superstitions within the Hinduism really had spoiled my life. As a result nothing could do in my life. At the same time there was no peace at my home. My life was fully covered by darkness. I was passing my days like this and once I happened to come to Surkhet Bazar and met Pastor Goman Basyal fortunately. I heard the first hand gospel from Pastor Goman and tried my level best to live a new life. But circumstances again did not allow me to live a God pleasing life. But now I have decided to live a God pleasing life. Now I am at HBTC and many a times I wonder how God brought me here from such wicked place. I praise God for this! In my village there are less Christians and churches and after this training I will try my level best to give them the good news and establish Churches. Please do pray for me. Thank you so much.

(11) Mr. Bhim Bahadur BK
I am Bhim Bahadur BK from Surkhet District. I was born and brought up in a Hindu

My parents were here in Nepal and there love drew towards my homeland Nepal. When I came back to my place I found that my parents were already been converted into Christianity. Later I also accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior and redeemer. I used to drink and smoke but after accepting Jesus, now I am free from all these addictions. Praise God for this. Now I have happiness and joy in me as well as in my family. For my treatment my parents used all possible means but nothing happened. I am sorry to say that my parents do not want me to be a Christian. They hate me and mock at me. I had a desire to know something about Christian people and Christ. So I kept going to Church. Later I understood what Christians are and who Christ Jesus is. Later I received Jesus Christ as my personal savior and redeemer. Now I am happy and joy is in my heart. I am studying His words here at HBTC. I really thank God for this opportunity. After this course I will try to bring my parents first into the saving grace of Jesus Christ and others too. Thank you so much.

I was married at the age of 12 and at the age of 16 three members of our family passed away including my loving mum. That was a great tragic. Again my wife got sick. I did not leave even a single stone unturned for her treatment. I spent all I had but nothing happened to my wife. I suffered a lot. All of a sudden a brother called Arjun Thapa Shared me of gospel of Jesus Christ and I believed Him as my personal savior and redeemer.
After accepting the Lord as our savior, all our sickness is gone. We could realize that He is the only healer and God. I turned back toward God from all my worldly habits. Greetings in His Unfathomable name.

It was another thrilling email to me this morning and thank you for your continuing friendship and partnership in the Gospel of Christ. I heartily accept your suggestions in regard to the semi-literate students at HBTC Surkhet. I attended the board meeting there in August and this issue was raised and prayed and planned together to resolve this problem. I have forwarded your email to James Tamang, our principal and will talk more with him and the board when I go there at the end of this month and will let you know the progress. I will also request him to get some reports of the alumni which will help our sponsors know the effect of the training.
Honourable Dr. Rod,
Loving greetings from Dil.

To beginwith, let me express my heartfelt thanks for your friendship and partnership with us all these years. It has been some weeks, since I heard from you and know how busy you are. Be assured of our prayers for you and our friends and partners there.

I am emailing you to inform you that we are sending the Audit report of the last fiscal year which includes all the Income and Expenditure of HBSA ( Lalitpur HBTC, Surkhet HBTC and Mobile training programmes). This will take about 12-14 days to get there.

Rod, is there any way that I could assist you to improve our fund raising ?
If you agree with me, I may buy some small souvenirs for our honourable partners in the UK which could be handed over through you sir.

Yours in His Harvest
Dil, Kathmandu.

I am not feeling well at this moment, after a difficult journey to and from Manang, the district beyond the Himalayas. fourth batch chosen

Loving greetings from Nepal.

It has been some weeks, since I heard from you and believe you are fine regardless of busy schedule. I am glad to inform you that we have started the 4th batch of the training in Surkhet. I also believe that you have received the group picture too sent by the principal. I am amazed to see the interest and need of the training in those two regions. It was difficult to select the students and we were compelled to enrol at least 21 out of many.
This is the largest batch we ever have.

We are glad that the Lord has provided like-minded friends like you in this building and equipping of the leaders in Nepal for a transformed nation in the future. We are optimistic in this endeavour, regardless of all turmoil and chaos in the land. If we think about the future, we cannot do anything and proceed further (Eccl 11:4)

I am glad that the Social Welfare Council of Nepal has approved our application of various programs.

Kailali floods Sept 2008

Disaster in Kailali District.

Dear friends,

It was 19 September 2008 evening .The rain started as usual manner like rainy season at 7 PM. Slowly it became heavier at 9 PM . I was suppose to travel early in the morning to Nepalganj. I went to bed around 9 PM. When I woke up at 4.30 a.m. There was very heavy rain with strong wind. I left my room at 5. am. The road in town was full of water. It usually is common in rainy season. After coming out ten kilometers from town there was a huge tree fallen down on the road. We used side ways. After struggling with the flood water we succeeded and came back to high way again. But again there was another huge tree on the road. People were busy in cutting the branches .After half an hour waiting we crossed the road.

When we came to real highway we saw the rivers were overflowing . Those rivers look like ocean. Going further ahead the scenes were pathetic. Along the side of the highway houses were sinking in water, People and cattle were running and crying. In some places water was running over the highway. When we reached about 50 KMs we saw many people standing on the road with cattle and their belongings. They stopped us and told don,t go further it can be danger. Within a few second we saw the river water taken big section of the highway.

We returned back from that spot. After arriving back in Dhangadhi I heard the news that thousands of houses destroyed within few hours. Some casualties observed. Army and police forces started rescuing people in different part of kailali districts. Though government and other organizations trying to help them but the damage is so big, it will take long time to recover all the loss.
There are many things we can do to help them.. It depends on the need , as well as fund availability.
In the past I also involved in such kind of relief work in coordination with churches, NGOs and Government health institutions.

I will be very grateful if you can consider urgent need to help those people. Please pray for this situation and if you wish please help by sending your contribution.

Recent statistics update September 23, 2008
Displaced family 12779
Partially effected 1579
No of deaths 50
Missing 26
We can help them by doing following things.
1. Health camp
2. Blankets distribution
3. Food items
4. Warm cloths for children

fruits of ministry in Nepal 17 August 2008

First of all, let me express my heartfelt thanks to you for your constant prayers for us. We indeed have been undergoing a heart aching chaos in the land, because of unstable political situation. After a four month long debate, division and discord among the parties after the Constituent Assembly Election held on the 10th of April, Nepal has now the First Republican Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, 'Prachanda', the president of the Maoists, former rebellions. We are sure things now on would be more challenging in the nation. Above all, the Lord is in control and He reigns, that is what we believe. At the moment, the east Nepal is under a strike for the last seven days and the public life there is chaotic and people run out of stuff for daily needs. This is just an example.

" I know that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor any thing taken from it, God has done this so that all should stand in awe before Him" (Ecclesiastes 3:14)

I received a very encouraging news from Pastor Lautan Chaudhary from Kanchanpur district, the west bordering district of Nepal that he could baptize 17 illiterate believers yesterday, all of them are the fruits of his labor in the field. This news came in while I am typing this email to you. Another call came from pastor Kesav Tamrakar from Dadeldhura district that he could bring two persons to the church last week through the story telling. Last week, I received a phone call from pastor Lil Bahadur Ghartimagar saying that 13 new believers were baptized and a new church has been planted in Dang district of the Midwest Nepal and has requested me to pray especially for the need of a small fellowship center for the new congregation there, The local believers will give some sweat labor and collect bamboos and some wood from the jungle to construct a typical village style church building and they need some generous partners to help buy some tin for roof.

"If we do not give up, we will reap the harvest in its due time." (Gal 6:9)

I will be sending two of our colleagues/staffs of HBSA for the 10 day visit to the sites of oral church planting in the Midwest and the farwest Nepal beginning from the 21st of September.

In the mean time, Jomesh will be arriving tomorrow from Surkhet after taking a week long class at HBTC, Surkhet, Saroj is still in his home district, as his mother is not keeping well, and pastor Yam and I will be leaving day after tomorrow for Baglung, west Nepal to conduct a leadership seminar for four districts there. Ishwor and Samuel will be leaving on the 24th for Mustang, to conduct a Trainers Training of the Bible Story Telling. We are still in need of funds to cover the expenses, as this district is one of the most expensive districts in the Himalayan region. This is the district beyond the Himalayas. We will appreciate your prayers for all of these training programs in this month. We will also appreciate your prayers for two residential leadership training centres one in Lalitpur under pastor Yam,s leadership (20 participants) and the other one in Surkhet under Mr. Kesav Tamang's leadership (21 participants).

Thanking and looking forward to a more meaningful partnership with you in this endeavor of reaching out to the unreached ones of the Midwest and the Farwest Nepal for the Lord,

Sincerely your,
Dil Bahadur Tamang

Brief third batch report

Honorable Dr. Rod
Greetings from HBTC Surkhet.
To God be all the glory and honor for what He has done wonderfully and faithfully to HBTC Surkhet. We are exceedingly grateful to you all for your fervent prayer, financial support, love and encouragements that made us possible to run HBTC here in Mid-West Nepal Surkhet. I have briefly sketched down the outline of third batch HBTC i.e. as follows:
1. Third batch introduction: Our third batch class was started with 18 participants from various churches on 1st January 2008. They were from various districts. One student was from Rukum i.e. one of the remotest District of Nepal and one was from far west Nepal i.e. Kanchanpur. We have been trying to bring participants from such districts because many pastors and leaders haven't got any opportunity to learn God's words so far.
2. Students' Activities: Himalayan Bible Training Center Surkhet also tries to equip its participants with various activities for their exposure and better future practical ministry. Some of the activities are as follows-
A. Weekend evangelism: Himalayan Bible Training Center students go surrounding villages on every Sunday by diving into four to five groups as per the total students' number. Through this evangelism the Lord has given us many souls into His kingdom. In third batch only 229 people heard the Gospel, 11 people accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior. An encouraging thing for us is some of those who heard of the gospel from our participants sometimes come to our training center and worship God together. To God be the glory! In our third batch, we HBTC family had planned to go outside the valley for evangelism but because of the lack of financial matter we could not do that trip. We urge you all to pray for this for fourth session so that we could make this trip possible.
B. Weekly Church service: HBTC students go for weekly service to different local Churches. Reason behind this is to build up good rapport with local churches and students' exposure too. Presently we have sent our students mainly in four Churches that are situated in Surkhet valley. One thing that really amazed us is local Churches' and INF missionary's love, prayer, encouragement and support to HBTC. We praise God for this.
Some of our participants from far districts got travelling fair from the local churches where they were assigned to worship. Participants found all the local churches very friendly, supportive and co-operative. In coming batches we would like to cope with all the valley local churches.
C. Fasting prayer: HBTC students do fasting prayer by the end of every English month. All of us gather in spirit and spend time with the Lord. Generally we pray for all the concerned people, organizations and friends on that day fully believing that God would answer all our prayers in His own time.
D. Thanksgiving prayer: Likewise HBTC students do thanksgiving prayer by the end of Nepali month. On that day we all thank the Lord for His grace, guidance, provision and care. Whenever we meet for this service, we have experienced God's presence among us. To God be the glory!
E. Talent Show day: HBTC students perform their hidden talents for God's glory twice in a month on Wednesday. On that day all of them get excited to perform their talents such as Nepali folk dance, folk song, jokes, poetry, drama etc. At this point we come to know perfectly that our God has given all of us many gifts and talents for His glory. No one is without gift and talent.
F. HBTC Welfare Fund: From second bath onwards HBTC has started its own small welfare fund i.e. called HBTC Surkhet welfare fund. The aim of this FUND is to render small financial help to both graduated students and studying students. Those who are studying sometimes get sick need of pocket money, unexpected travelling etc and if our graduated friends are also financially struggling in their ministry we will try to render small help. Encouraging news that we would like to tell you is now HBTC fund has almost Rs 5,000.00. Hope God will keep adding to this fund for His glory in the days ahead too.
G. Reading entire Bible at least once during the training period: HBTC students ought to finish reading entire Bible at least once during five months period. Surprisingly in third batch all finished once and a student from Bardiya district finished almost thrice. Praise the Lord. In his own words' after coming here in HBTC, Bible reading has been my habitual action".
3. How many subjects they could learn during the five months period?
Altogether in third batch they learned 24 subjects on various topics.
4. Graduation day of third batch: The graduation day was on June 8th 2008. Our venue was Khristya Church Itram. 16 participants were so excited with their invited pastors and guests. We had invited all our executive board members from Surkhet valley Churches. The program was conducted by James Tamang, principal. Chief Guest was pastor Padam Nepali, Bethel Church. He himself delivered an exciting message. Dedication prayer for graduating students was offered by Pastor Goman Singh Basyal, Grace Vision Church. Final word of thanks was delivered by Rev. Dil Bahadur Tamang, Director Himalayan Bible Study Academy. Altogether there were 80-90 invited guests including graduating students on 3rd batch graduation ceremony day.
A. Ex- HBTC student's encouraging ministerial experiences-
1. Mr. Keshav Thapa(Bethel Church, Khajura): Mr. Keshav Thapa is a first batch student. We are happy to share with you all that all the HBTC graduate students are serving the Lord in their own respective areas. Some are pastors, some are deacons, some are evangelist, some counselor, some Sunday school teacher and some are doing social service too. To God be the glory!
Mr. Keshav Thapa is from Bethel Church Khjura and we had invited him on graduation day to share some ministerial experiences to encourage outgoing group. He is now one of the pillars of Bethel Church that is one of the leading and growing church of Surkhet valley. He gives all credit to God and HBTC for his successful ministry in Bethel Church.
He was encouraging all by saying 'we are to serve the Lord from the bottom of our hearts being so humble. Humbleness before the Lord is the beginning of our ministry. He was reminding how he put believer's slipper and shoes on Sunday in a right place while they were worshipping the Lord at Church. I did not hesitate doing all those things. I obeyed my God as well as my senior leaders. Now God has given me an opportunity to serve him as a full time minister. He is involved in a NGO called "Life Challenge" where he counsels to drug addicted and alcoholic people by showing Jesus' love'.
I have already mentioned that all of our graduates are serving the Lord in their own respective areas. No one has gone astray. We thank God and proud of our graduates for their sincere and faithful God's ministry where serving the Lord is not a easy business. But our gracious and loving God has been using our graduates.

5. Praise and thanksgiving points-
1. We praise God for His sufficient grace upon HBTC Surkhet
2. We praise God for His faithfulness to HBTC Surkhet.
3. We praise God for all the well wishers like you for HBTC Surkhet.
4. We praise God for the approval of HBTC Surkhet from District administration.
5. We praise God for the co-operative & supportive hands from the local Churches.
6 Prayer points-
1. Let's pray for fourth session that will be held from July 23 2008.
2. Let's pray for coming students so that God would send suitable candidates for His service.
3. Let's pray for all the well wishers and donors of HBTC.
4. Let's pray for all the staffs and visiting teachers of HBTC Surkhet.
5. Let's pray for its executive board members so that they would lead HBTC for God's glory.
Thank you so much. Looking forward your prayer and love in the days ahead too.

Dr. Rod and family in Lord,
Honor greeting from CCIS Nepal.
How are you there? We are praying for you and your life there. We all are fine here in your prayer answer under His grace. Now a days here is starting raining seasion. All fellowship are being blessings. Now a days we are making our 3rd daughter churche fellowship hall for 200 members siting capacity.
Our church is very much thanking with you for your great help and continue pray for us. We do never forget your big contribution and love to our church.
I am making my personal home near by our church. It is 4 rooms foundation. My parent are being old day by day and can not work in remote village so that I have to manage settle for them. Pray for me to complete home. Actually I have not money as need to build it but God will provide me in His grace and who ever would like to me support that will from God. I am not asking money but pray for me how God is inspired you that is my request. I am sharing my personal things to my prayer partner to pray for me. Your prayer will bring blessing in my family. Thank you very much for your touching heart to me. God bless you abandantly.

Nabin from Surkhet.

23 May 2008 Thank you

Jaimashih from Nepal.

It is always encouraging to receive email from you. Thank you for your thrilling words to me and faithful prayers for me. I am really amazed how the Lord protects me, as I travel across the country. Day before yesterday, there was a brutal bus accident in Dan claiming 45 lives and all injured. This is the district, I travel quite often. God is good all the times to me.

It has been my pleasure to have you as our friend and partner in the Gospel. The political situation here remains the same, requiring continuing prayers. There was a day strike in the capital, and curfew in the east Nepal. My parents had to walk for 11 kilometers on their way back to Gorkha yesterday, due to the strike in Gorkha district. Ah, struggles continue in life. But, we see the door of the Gospel opened in such political chaos. The burning issue in Nepal now is the fuel crisis again. On the 28th of May, the very first meeting of the Constituent Assembly will be held and it is announced that the monarchy will be eradicated forever from Nepal and Nepal would be declared a Peoples' Republic. But, I guess that will cost the nation again. Another concern is about forming of the government, as the largest party i.e. the Maoist, having only 29 % of seats in the CA. It seems that other parties do not want to join them in coalition government and neither can they form the government only by themselves. Ah, this continues.

Lastly, in regard to the MOU, it would be better to get it on time,. so that we could approach the Social Welfare Council, before the 15th of June in order to get the approval beginning from July. As I look back the year, the amount we received was a good amount. Will it be possible to mention a bigger amount which will help us to estimate the budget for the year July 08- June 09. Thank you Rod and we owe you a lot for your faithful partnership in this endeavour. God bless you.

It has been some weeks, since I wrote to you. I was in Surkhet and please see some pictures I took during my stay there. [ed: see gallery]

Let me also remind you of the MOU for the period of July 08-June 09. We do not have adequate words to thank you enough for the faithful partnership with us to continue this challenging ministry. As I looked back the year, God was really faithful to us. I will appreciate you help me get the MOU on time so that we could approch the Social Welfare Counsil and get the programmes approved for this fiscal year i. e. July 08- June 09. Please try to mention a bigger amount, as it was a bit difficult last year to convince the authorties, since only pounds 2000 was writen in the MOU. We are optimistic that our honourable partners will contribute more than what we received last year. As the MOU is the approximate agreement, a bigger amount could be written. We owe you a lot for your kind cooperation with us and glory to God. Thanking you and lookwing forward to seeing his Kingdom being extended in this land of temples.,

Some glimpses of Surkhet Training Centre.

I was at HBTC Surkhet for three days to perform some administrative works with the Chief District Officer's office in order to get the governmental approval as a branch ministry of Himalayan Bible Study Academy. I am glad to inform you that almost 90 % works have been done so far and we will be approved after some investigations done by the government authorities.

Every one there is doing fine and the local board has been very helpful to the principal to carry on the task of the training centre. We thank you for your faithful partnership and investment in the lives of the grass roots leaders of the Midwest and the farwest Nepal. My joys find no boundary that every participant of this session has completed reading the entire Bible at least once, some have done even twice which is one of the requirements of the fulfillment of the course for five months. The Lord has been faithful to us thus far and believe He remains the same in the days ahead too. Regardless of the adverse situation politically, we have made it and are preparing to conclude the 3rd session on the 15th of June. We will up date you more later and thank you for your faithful partnership in the Gospel.

Sincerely yours,

Dil Bahadur Tamang

6 April 2008
Honorable Dr. Rod and family,

Cordial greetings from Surkhet.

This is James principal of Himalayan Bible Training Center Surkhet. By his grace and through your fervent prayer we all are fine and doing well here so far. First of all, we would like to honor and give praise and glory to our loving God for this training center from where many underprivileged dear local pastors and leaders have been benefited and will be benefited. To God be the glory! After coming here at HBTC they all have a life changing experience from above.

Things are excellent so far at HBTC. As constituent assembly poll approaches on April 10 and we consider it as a historic event, most of the students wanted to cast their valuable votes to their candidates. So we have given them a week off for this purpose. Today they have gone to their native place and let's pray for their journey mercy and safe returning.

Election fever has gone up beyond the measure. Though fighting, kidnapping and muscle showing is going on the present condition is ok than insurgency period. After the election what happens we do not know. For that we have to pray constantly.

Brief activities of HBTC.

Though it is too late, now I thought that it is better to make you known of the happenings here at HBTC. HBTC students do not only learn his words inside the class –room. Every Sunday they divide into four groups and go for evangelization in surrounding villages. We have a exciting message that is - last month five people have accepted the Lord and now they are coming to Itram Church. To God be the Glory.

We have monthly thanksgiving prayer also. By the end of every nepali month we have that fellowship. We all gather early in the morning i.e. is exact six Am and praise God for His all blessings and goodness. Last month most of the students were moved by the spirit. All were crying and there was big tranquility and experienced his living presence.

We have monthly fasting prayer also. That is by the end of English month. We gather at 10pm with prayerful heart and continue till 2pm. God has been so gracious and faithful to our training center.

Regarding Saturday worship, we have again divided them into four groups and sent to four local Churches of this valley. Ultimate purpose to doing this is for their exposure and HBTC's good rapport with local Churches,

Another thing is, from the beginning we had felt that some of the students were struggling in financial matter. We had some bitter experience also. Some get sick. Minor sickness it is ok but sometimes some gets typhoid which costs some amount. We did not have any special fund for that. Sometimes urgent phone comes and students most go to their home but again there is bus fair problem. Earlier we had to bear all these expenses from our mess. We were praying for this and looking for a way to solve this problem. God ultimately spoke to me and now we have introduced a "HBTC welfare Fund". It was done from the second session. What we did was Rs. 5 each month from each students. Even from alumni also. It includes their free will contribution too. Like this we have started a tiny self-supporting formula. Not only from our students but to those teachers who come here to teach. Teachers are also so happy with this idea. Happiest thing worth to share to you all is now unbelievably in this fund we have more than NRs 4000.00(Four thousand rupees). Praise the Lord. By using this money on the condition of returning all our students are travelling today. Please do pray for this FUND also so that it may to some welfare for needy HBTC pastors and leaders.

And another thing is Itram Church wants to take our HBTC students at least once before graduation for evangelization in remote areas. They have seen HBTC students' zeal in evangelization. For that we need total three days. We need to go on Friday without hampering our regular classes and come back on Sunday evening. Altogether number will be not more than 25 including me and some Church members. For that we need bus fare and eating stuffs. I was told that local Church will bear some eating stuffs. Even if Church bears some part what I have seen is we need some amount i.e. NRs 5,000.00(Five thousand). If some amount remains we could use for 2nd trip. Please do pray for this also.

Finally, things are well. God is great and whatever you have done so far and doing for HBTC is immeasurable. Your labor, support, prayer and service to eternal great God for the expansion of his kingdom will not be in vain and He rewards you. Oh! sorry, today I do not know email has been so long and I think you won't get time to read this lengthy email. But kindly do find few minutes to read all the brief happenings of your own HBTC Surkhet. If your valuable time permits kindly write me back few words. Thank you

In Christ

First Batch Himalayan Bible Training Centre
Surkhet, Midwest Nepal
Five Month Residential Leadership Training

“ My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for them.”
Ezekiel 34:6 (NIV)

Honourable Dr. Rod and all the partners,
Warmest greetings from Himalayan Bible Training Centre, Surkhet family.

To begin with, we are overwhelmed to share with you about the thrilling success of having the First Batch Residential Leadership Training in these two needy most regions of Nepal, namely the Midwest and the Farwest Nepal.

We do not think it would have been possible, had you not been our honourable partner in this endeavor and your invaluable participation and partnership in this regard has been highly appreciated. All glory to God, the Almighty and you deserve all appreciation we could ever offer.
Let me now, share with you some up dates about the first batch of the residential leadership training for five months.

The Day of Commencement.

We, indeed had a plan to start the training on the first of February 2007. Nevertheless, due to the ongoing uncertain general strike in Nepal in those days, we were affected badly to start the training on its scheduled date. i.e. the first of February. As the strike continued, some of the prospective participants changes their minds, and could not come to join us in the training. However, the Lord provided some other new unexpected participants and the total number of the participants was 18 in the beginning, though only 12 of them could attend the opening ceremony on the fourth of
February, 2007, as seen in the picture beside and the rest joined on the following days. In the presence of the local pastors and leaders, 12 particpatns were dedicated to the Lord for the journey of learning for the next five months. The Founder/Director Dil Bahadur Tamang encouraged the participants from the Word of God on that occasion dedicated to the Lord. Since the house we rented was under construction, the Christian Church, Itram, Surkhet sheltered us offering two rooms for hostels for the few early months to which we are
indebted. For few, even the classes were held at the
Christian Church, Itram.

Extra Activities included.
In order to let the participants experience the ministry in a different context, we led them to the field for personal sharing times with the non-believers in and around Surkhet valley. On different occasions, the trainers guided the participants to various places to the live field experiences. The trainers of Nepal Campus Crusade for Christ led all the participants for one full day to share the good news to the non believing friends. Besides the class room sessions, the participants got opportunities to have the experiences in the field and we are glad that many people started coming to the church, being influenced by our participants. On the other occasion, our participants were led to have a Prayer Walk up the hills of Surkhet, as seen in the picture beside.

One of the excitements I feel sharing with you is the active involvement of our participants in the Easter Procession and the Open air preaching. They were given different responsibilities to do a volunteer menial works and Olak Sunuwar, our co-ordinator was given the responsibility to lead the CHOIR of the Easter Program in the Surkhet valley. Another privilege that our participants got was the Leadership Seminar organized by LEAD Nepal, Pokhara for three days. In the seminar, they were taught by pastor Grishma Parajuli. We are sorry that we could not provide the pictures of these activities, as the training center does not own a camera yet. The Only camera we, HBTC Nepal own remains in Kathmandu particularly with the Director for reporting of various training ministries.

Participants exchanged.
In our previous information, we mentioned that there were 18 participants in the training. We also provided the single and also the group pictures of the participants. But, as Mr. Nawal Sing B.K. had to concentrate on his pastoral duties back at his church, he could not complete the course and in the mean time, Miss Nisha Koirala had joined the course and the total number became 18 again. But, this happened after we communicated with you.

The Graduation Ceremony

As Paul says in Philippians 1:6, “ He who has begun a good work in you, will carry it on to its completion.” We are over whelmed to share with you that we made it and prepared 18 men and women for the Harvest of the Lord and you have played a tremendous role in it. On the 24th of June, the Sunday, the newly formed Ad Hoc board members and the local church and Christian Para-church organization leaders witnessed and blessed our graduates jointly. Our advisor Pastor Solomon Gurung was the Chief Guest of the occasion and also the speaker to encourage our graduates. He shared the words of encouragement quoting II Tim 2:1-7. And the ceremony was represented by all the local church leaders and also the para-church organizations such as, INF, Campus Crusade for Christ, Youth With a
Mission, and so on.

We are encouraged by the attendance of more than 140 leaders. We missed you our honourable partners and sponsors on this occasion and just prayed for you thanking the Lord for your generous Hearts and Hands.

The coordinator Olak Sunuwar was the Master of Ceremony and the youth of Christian Christian Church, Itram led the service with a meaningful worship. After the graduates and the Principal being consecrated by the President of the board, the Founder Director of Himalayan Bible Training Center Dil Bahadur Tamang encouraged the graduates with few words of exhortation saying, “ No one and no thing can ever stop the work of the Lord and He is at work in Nepal, opening many doors for the life transforming Gospel of Christ.”

I believe it has meant you something. We are indebted to you for your faithful prayers first and then the spontaneous generous contributions that has meant us much in this Endeavour of building, training and equipping the saints of this land of turmoil and temples to edify the fledgling churches in this Himalayan kingdom.

We join Paul in saying, “The gifts you sent are fragrant offerings, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.” Phil 4:18.

Himalayan Bible Study Academy Registered with the Government of Nepal.
We thank God for His faithful to us all these years. We are thrilled to share with you that we now have been recognized by the Government of Nepal and has granted us an Official Registration in Capital of Nepal i.e. Kathmandu. Within two weeks time, the government registered us with the name Himalayan Bible Study Academy and Himalayan Bible Training Center in Surkhet will remain as a Branch of Himalayan Bible Study Academy. This was the name given by the government of Nepal to us and the Kathmandu District Administrative Office has given us the Registration No. 1331. God is good all the time and has made all things beautiful in His time. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

May the Lord of Harvest bring forth manifold blessings to you, you continue to be our invaluable partner in this ministry giving hearts and hands together. As you have done a lot for us and we do not deserve to ask with you. Nevertheless, we will highly appreciate your prayers for the Following concerns in order to continue this training ministry to help extend the Kingdom of God in these Two Ignored regions.

1. Please pray for the Second session to be started from the first of August, 2007. We are optimistic that you will continue up holding us in prayers and finances too.
2. Pleas also pray for the following URGENT needs.
a. A Digital camera for the proper and frequent communication (worth of Sterling pounds 100.00 )
b. A Mini Photo Copier, as photo copying in Surkhet is expensive and we need to provide the teaching notes to the participants. (worth Sterling Pounds 270.00)
c. A motor bike for the Principal, as local transportation is not available in Surkhet (worth Sterling pounds 1,000.00)

“We thank God for your Partnership in the Gospel from the first day until the today.”
Phil 1:5

Thanking and looking forward your continuing Partnership and Friendship,

Sincerely yours,

In His Harvest in Nepal,

The Ad hoc Committee being formed

In order to get the local full support for continual and sustainability, we felt to form a local body. Even though we wanted to do in the very beginning of the training center,

had to postpone until our newly appointed Principal completed his Theological Degree in India. On the 23rd of June, the Saturday, we have formed a local ad hoc committee chaired by pastor Padam Nepal, the pastor of the local Assembly Of God Church in Surkhet. We are proud of him, as he is a well known personality in Surkhet because of his contribution to the society. We thank God for His favor to us in getting the local support from these pastors and the leaders to gear up the training ministry.
